Statement
My art making is broadly influenced by my interest in social and cultural history, my relationships with family, friends and animals, and an active involvement with community organizations that give my life purpose. I am also an enthusiastic collector of old things.
Observations
The website allows me to put some distance between my creative process and the work. It is important for me to have the time to observe, reflect, and respond.
I think about how relationships work in art and how the surrounding environment affects those relationships.
My process is organic. I try to challenge myself to explore new approaches and materials.
It is important to me to work in series - to carry the concept forward and create thematic continuity. I do return to certain themes and organizational patterns.
I have loosely categorized my work in this website, but it all appears to retain a narrative aspect regardless of the medium.
Background
I have studied at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston with Israeli artist Eli Shamir, the DeCordova Museum School, Haystack Mountain School, and the Essex Art Center. My work, in both public and private collections, has been shown in Massachusetts at the Preble Gallery, Charlestown, Memorial Hall Library, Andover, Essex Art Center, Lawrence, Concord Artist Association, Concord, Brush Gallery, Lowell, Merrimack College Thegaste Gallery, Whistler Museum of Art, Lowell, Turtle Gallery and Deer Isle Artist Association, both in Deer Isle, ME and in other venues.
